Escort Mission--Part 1.

Alright. So far so good. No surprise ambush, no unexpected bombing. Yet, Raiden new it wasn’t over. It wasn’t suppose to be this easy. Someone was bound to show up. Anyone wasn’t willing to pass up an opportunity to try to kill off someone of such High Authority, eager to receive a hearty bounty from Big Boss himself. This is one of his most important missions… If the Ambassador was killed, he would be put on full blast. And if there his soldiers, he won’t afford one single slip-up. Raiden’s eyes narrow onto the dirt path in front of them. His finger reaches up to press the speaker button on his earpiece, as his boot presses on the gas pedal a little harder.

“Sergeant Yamazaki, do you copy…? ” He listens to the crackling of the transceiver, waiting. Seconds.

“ Yes sir, Major General, sir. ” a calm tone sounding from the other end.

“ Do you still have contact with the escort? ”

“ Affirmative. As planned, we have cornered the escort’s Humvee on all 4 sides, with Soldiers manning every cannon. This mission is most unlikely to fail, sir. ”

“ Do not get to cocky. Don’t dare take your eyes off the Ambassador’s truck. Understood? ”

“ Yes, sir. ”

“ …Excellent. I’m counting on you. Tell the others to switch on their radars, and stay alert. This escort isn’t going to go as well as you think. ”

Silence. Then, again, the transceiver crackles to life.

“ What are you trying to imply, General. How do you know of such things? ”

Before responding, Raiden ponders his theory. A hunch perhaps. He can sense it. Something… His gloved finger presses against the earpiece.

“ Serg, just do as I tell you. No questions asked ”

“ Agreed. Over and out. ”

Raiden’s hand stretches out the window to adjust his rearview mirror. Nothing. Just the long, dirt path he’s leaving in his tracks. Moments pass. He breaths a short sigh of relief as they finally pass the border of the Orodera Prefecture. He drives in silence, his eyes alert to every noise, animal, sound… waiting for a status report from any other of the transportation vehicles. Suddenly, the transceiver fizzles. Just what he was waiting for. Or so he thought.

“ General? ” The voice sounding urgent on the other end. One of his specialists, Corporal Rie Yui.

“ Yui. Status Report. ”

“I was checking in the escort vehicle when my radar started to flash…Somethings coming up. It states that four unknown enemy projectiles, racing right toward us. In diamond formation, same as us. Wait—their veering off. ”

Raiden’s vision seemed to sharpen, eyeing his Scorpion Submachine gun resting in the passenger seat. He knew it wasn’t going to be this easy.

“ What do you mean “ veering off ”, Corporal?” Raiden replied with a dark tone. “ Do you see these projectiles? ”

“ No, sir. They were on my radar a few seconds ago…” Sounds in the background determine that Rie was refreshing the radius. “ It’s like they completely vanished from the scanning radius!! ”

“ Alright. Relax, Corporal. Alert the Escort Humvee immediately. Close in on their truck, and stay on your guard. Alert me if anything else shows up. Be prepared for anything that’s coming. ”

“ Sir, yes, sir!! ”

His other hand returns to the wheel, steering right to come in a closer diamond formation to the Escort Vehicle. Unlike his comrades, he was driving alone. His other Speicalists had a few Soldiers on board, just in case anything like this happened. He watched as the other humvee’s closed in on the main truck, protecting the escort transport closely.

Whoosh….

Raiden swerved, almost hitting a nearby oak.

What the hell...?

Someone just ran right in front of the truck. No… scratch that. Something. Faster then fast, it was like a black blur. His head turned to the left, trying to see the other vehicles. He couldnt find them. his eyes flared in anger. Almost immediately, something raced past his side of the truck, knocking off the rearview mirror. His eyes sharpened again, grabbing his Scorpion and placing it in lap. He presses his finger to the earpiece.

“ Corporal, are you—”

He had no time to respond. “ G-general! Somethings are s-swarming the car!! We need--” Her frantic voice was drowned out by the surprised voices of his soldiers in the background. And he also heard… hissing.

“ What?! Whats going on!! Speak, Corpral!! ” he yelled into the earpiece. No response. Just… the yelling and screaming of his soldiers, and the hissing. Then, the line cut off. The escort!! He tried to contact Sergeant Yamazaki… tried to contact the driver of the Escort Vehicle, tried everything. Cellphone, walkie-talkies. Even beepers. Everything. It seems as if all the wireless connectors were snapped.

Suddenly, something slammed on top of his sunroof. His head whirled to look upward, as a miniature hole began to form in the roof. Someone was breaking in. He whammed his foot n the breaks, grabbing his submachine gun, readying himself—

A Grenade plops into through the hole, bouncing on the floor.

A voice. “ Merry Christmas, General. ”

…Crap.

BOOM!!!!!!!
